AZ Devo hits the US Cup

Last weekend we were out in San Dimas, CA for AZ Devo’s 1st US Cup event as a team.   It was quite a fun and successful event for us.  We showed up on Friday to pre-ride the course and the guys all looked sharp in their new team kits designed by Pioneer S&M.  It was kind of like Christmas in March for the team riders with everyone riding Trek bikes, wearing their new Trek Circuit helmets and sporting some sweet Oakley Jawbones.

The course at Bonelli Park was a World Cup quality track that offered a lot of climbs and challenging technical sections.  During the pre-ride of the course, some of our riders were experience some shifting challenges.  The Subaru Trek team mechanic, Ray, was kind enough to help dial in our bikes for us and had them shifting like a dream.  Thanks, Ray!

The Cat 1 Jr 17-18 race went off bright and early at 8:02 AM on Sunday.  AZ Devo riders Tyler Coplea & Cypress Gorry got the hole shot and lead out the star-studded field of racers.  As they came through the feed zone of Lap #1, Ryan Geiger & Tyler Coplea were sitting in 3rd & 4th with Cypress in 5th about 30 seconds behind.

By lap #2, Cypress legs warmed up and he moved up into 3rd place and was closing in on the 2nd place rider.  Geiger & Coplea were battling with group of three other riders for the 4th & 5th positions.  Kyle Willett has been working with Coach D and is showing steady improvement this young season and rode strong in the top ten.

On the final lap, Cypress continued to ride strong and crossed the finish line in 3rd.  Geiger & Coplea broke away from the other riders and then sprinted it out for the final 2 podium positions.  Geiger won the sprint to take 4th followed by Coplea in 5th.

In the CAT 1 Men’s 19-24 event, Travis Glysson was off to a strong start and was riding in 3rd when he had a tough crash.  He went down on a transition from dirt to pavement and banged up his knee.  He had to pull out of the race early, but expects to be back strong next weekend.

3 AZ Devo riders on the podium and 5 riders in the top ten is a great way to start off the National Series!  Up next is the US Cup Event this coming weekend in Fontana, CA.
