AZ Devo would like to welcome the newest members of our team, Nick Thorpe and Sam Gross. These two competitors will fill the last 2 positions on our development team. The team is really excited to have them join AZ Devo. These guys have a great track record, and we know the team will benefit having them be apart of our roster.
Nick Thorpe is a junior at Notre Dame Preparatory. He was born and raised in Scottsdale, AZ. He started racing competitively just over 2 year ago. He races mountain, cyclocross, and track events. His favorite race venue is Sea Otter Classic. He says he likes, “the great atmosphere, and all of the other types of racing you can watch. Also, the scenery in Monterey is unforgettable. Anybody who races bikes should make the trip to Sea Otter at least once in their lives, because it is worth it.” Some of his resent results are 1st at McDowell Meltdown Cat 2 15-18, 2nd place at 12hrs of Fury, and 2nd place at AZ State Championship Cyclocross Cat 4. Impressive for someone who has just started out in his race career two years ago. Something else that is impressive is his dedication to training. He feels he gets out what he puts in. He says, “The harder you train, the better you will become as a racer.” You might see him training out in the hills at Sears Kay, one of his favorite spots. He enjoys the steep hills and fast descents, and the great views.
Next we have Sam Gross. Sam has been riding non-stop since his dad taught him at age 4. He has been racing competitively for 3 years. His favorite at the moment is road racing. He likes it, he says, “Because it is like a chess game. It’s very tactical and the best true all around rider who will win.” He feels his strength is his endurance. His favorite races have been The Hillside Road Race, The Sea Otter Classic, and The Whiskey 50. He had the unique opportunity to ride on the US All-Star Team in Mt. Snow, Vermont at the US Cup. This is amazing, because that means he was hand-picked by US Cycling to participate. He does most of his training at Bartlett Lake. Convenient, since it’s right off his driveway. He was born and raised in Cave Creek, AZ and attends Cactus Shadows High School. He will be a freshman at the U of A in the fall.
Thank you guys for joining us, we are looking forward to an amazing season!
